Theres even more now, count went up by 8 last night. Bottle triplets in the house lastthree nights. Feedings eight times a day (soon back to four , once the youngest of the lambs on the dole are a week old)
We’ve got entropion (inverted eyelids) up the yin-yang and had the vet in to staple a bunch, we have a lamb with an abcess on his nose, from which we extracted nearly 1/2 cup of pus today. Two older Blue Face ewes who eac h had twin s and decided they only wanted to care for one... Hay consumption is throu gh thr roof... I do think we have enough... Barely... Depending on how soon the snow meltS, W e got another 6-8 inches fresh last ni ght. Operating on caffeine and pizza, and leftovers.

Our kids school has a catchment are that goes way out of town including a big rural area. My 5 year old was just telling me the other day that one of her friends had lambs and was up all night taking care of them..
I told them about my Oppo friend who also has lambs and also stays up all night..
We agreed that they sound like a lot of work.

I couldn’t imagine the struggles having that many babies. Our animals spend every winter in our freezers.
With the snow melting on top of 4” of ice our barns have rivers flowing thru the doors.
Those sure are cute little guys.

So adorable! My cousin has a turkey farm, and her kids raise goats for 4H and I always love going up there to see the babies when they are born.
Lamb story time - w hen I was little (about 2 or 3) my mom stopped by her friend’s little farm to feed the animals because her friend was out of town or s omething. It was winter time, so she left me in the car to stay warm while she went down to the barn. About halfway through dispensing food she heard me screaming and came running out of the barn to see the car surrounded by her friend’ s 4 cows. They weren’t doing anything bad, just staring through the windows of the ol’ Dodge Colt at me, but I was apparently terrified. Fast forward a few months my mom and her friend decided to try and re-acquaint me with farm animals by taking me to another friend’s farm who’d just had a bunch of lambs . They put me in the pen thinking it would be adorable and I’d love playing with cute cuddly little sheep that were more my size. Instead I just stood in the pen full of lambs and howled in terror until my mom pulled me out.

They look tasty? Are they for eating or wool?

Okay... so when do you get to start turning them into lambchops and have a big BBQ party?

One of the grossest things I ever witnessed was my Ag/Shop teacher pop an abscess between a sheeps toes. Fucking disgusting...
The second was a c-section on a cow.. My friend put on a shoulder length glove and the vet gave him a tour of the inside of a cow.

A 50# bag of non gmo Amish feed is $13.50.
A round bale is $45.
What is the cost in ur area?

We make our own hay, but $40-45 is pretty standard for a good quality roun d bale aroun d here, we started the winter with 150 bales, about 40% 2nd cut. With 43 ewes and ~80 lambs feeding only grain would kill u s. We are planing on supplementing the ewes who are lactating, but only a little grain, if we buy by the ton, we can get local non-gmo for about $11/sack.

I think I can at least somewhat relate - I had twin boys (human variety) and it nearly ended me and my marriage. Looking back at pictures they are cute, but I am a certified a**hole on too little sleep.

“work" is relative... We're only on year two of doing it full time, without other jobs.
